large-scaleSovietmilitaryoperation.Fewknowthehistory:the9thCompany
ofthe345thGuardsAirborneRegimentcameunderheavyfireonHill3234on
January7th,1988.Theymanagedtostopseveralattacksbyanestimated400
MujahideenandPakistanimercenariesandheldtheirpositionfortwogory
days.Thecompanylost6men,andtheremaining28ofthetotal39were
wounded.Two9thCompanysoldierswereposthumouslyawardedtheGoldenStar
medalandthetitleofSovietHero.
